Prairie Fest hike for children
Event Information
Description
Thank you for taking time to pre register your child or group for the story-driven Home Sweet Home hike. Parents and group chaperones are welcome!
What can we expect on the hike?
Home Sweet Home is a free 1-hour hike available during Prairie Fest at Tandy Hills Natural Area on Saturday, April 25, 2015.
Magical nooks, high ridge vistas, fossils and an ancient prairie ecosystem make Tandy Hills the best place to hike in the metroplex. Children will explore three habitat zones with a naturalist guide. Science content is most appropriate for ages 8 to 11, but all are welcome. We maintain a 1:5 adult to child ratio for safety.
Hikes leave on the hour and run from 11 am until 4 pm.
Re-written for the prairie, this hike is based on a program designed by The Institute for Earth Education. It's a rambling adventure on moderate slopes and newly established low grade trails among the hills, prairie and creek beds. Bring a water bottle and wear shoes appropriate for off trail hiking.
What is Prairie Fest?
Prairie Fest is a free solar powered music, wildflower and environmental science festival managed through 100% volunteer effort by the Friends of Tandy Hills Natural Area (FOTHNA). Celebrating its 10th anniversary on Saturday, April 25, 2015, the fest is open to the public from 11 am until sunset.
Festival founders Don & Debora Young saved this 160-acre park from fracking. While the Home Sweet Home hike is free, donations and new memberships with FOTHNA are welcome. All proceeds from Prairie Fest support FOTHNA's education outreach programs and prairie restoration work.
