About this event

Kindness isn't hard — until you try to make it an everyday practice. Join Laura Collins in October for an experiential learning series, as she leads us in making the transition from self-protection to open-hearted kindness.

In Hebrew Scriptures, a word often used to describe the nature of God is hesed, usually translated as loving-kindness. The Dalai Lama has proclaimed, “My religion is kindness.” Most of us intend to be kind and yet find ourselves falling shorter of the goal than we would like.

In this three-week series on Tuesday evenings Oct. 4, 11 & 18 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., we will learn Metta (loving-kindness) meditation, a Buddhist practice. Metta helps us intentionally offer kindness to ourselves, to those we know and love, to those who cause us grief, and to the world. Each week we will focus on an aspect of this style of meditation with prompts for conversation and journaling to invite us to notice where kindness is showing up in our lives or lacking. Homework to actively practice a variety of ways to express kindness will be given, and we will have a chance to discuss our observations about the practices.

Registration is $79 per person at Eventbrite. All class materials are included with the registration fee. Indicate your desire to attend in person or online when you register. In-person attendance will be at Elk Haven Wellness Center in Brevard.

Want to avoid Eventbrite's fees? Send a check for $79.00 to CSW, 100 Elks Club Road, Brevard, N.C. 28712 and send an email to to reserve your space.
