Practicing Forgiveness: A Contemplative Workshop
Event Information
Description
Forgiveness is a foundational Christian spiritual practice. But the details of how to forgive are not often discussed. In this workshop, we will integrate our spiritual experience with practical skills of forgiving.
Unresolved wounds can cause us enormous difficulty. The spiritual practice of forgiveness can play an essential role in overcoming anger, resentment, hopelessness and much more. Forgiveness can also greatly improve our relationship with God. Forgiveness can bring us closer to God and deepen our awareness of God’s presence in our every moment.
The workshop will be rooted in contemplative practice, emphasizing God's presence with us as we learn to practice forgiveness. We will alternate between times of quiet, learning practical skills, group discussions and short presentations. Our workshop will end with a short liturgy of forgiveness.
Learning the practice of forgiveness will restore spiritual, emotional, mental and physical health. In this workshop we will help you:
- Identify how forgiveness will help you improve your spiritual experience
- Meet God and find God's grace where you are, as you are in the process of forgiveness
- Connect your anger with the injustice you have experienced
- Redirect anger to restore balance, health and joy throughout your life
- Learn the phases of forgiveness and how to move from one to the next.
- Answer your questions about who, how much and under what circumstances we forgive
- Establish appropriate boundaries to protect yourself from ongoing and repeated injury even as you forgive
- Prepare for the resistance to forgive and the paths around the resistance (when you are ready)
- Integrate contemplative practice with the practice of forgiving
