With the Internet and pornography being so readily available, we are seeing more people developing significant problems around compulsive sexual behavior. In this clinical training, we will give an introduction to what constitutes the problems, some ideas of the causes and how to identify and begin to assist our clients in a respectful and effective manner.

This training is designed for Counselors, Social Workers, Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Marriage & Family Therapists, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Addiction Counselors and other Mental Health & Health Care Professionals.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe how changes in technology and society have affected our sexual behaviors and what constitutes problematic sexual behavior.
  • Examine how brain chemistry is affected by pornography.
  • Consider the differences between chemical and process addictions.
  • Practice different approaches for helping clients with problematic sexual behavior to obtain assistance.
  • Examine the new ICD 11 diagnosis for compulsive sexual behavior disorder.
  • Discuss the link between trauma and sex addiction.
  • Look at assessment tools to determine how much of a problem may exist.
  • Explore how the addiction recovery model is used to help with sex addiction.


About the Instructor

Steven I. Lanzet is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Marriage & Family Therapist and was Founder and Clinical Director at Boise Counseling Center, a private counseling and consulting practice specializing in helping people with Addiction and Mental Health issues. A great deal of his work has been with helping Impaired Physicians and other Professionals. He currently maintains a private counseling and consulting practice at Boise Counseling Center. While Steven works with many varied concerns, as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, he sees many clients and their partners who are recovering from Sex, Pornography, Relationship and Love Addiction. As a member of the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals, Steven trained extensively with Dr. Patrick Carnes, the foremost authority on Sex Addiction, and other international addiction experts. Steven holds the CSAT-S (Certified Sex Addiction Therapist- Supervisor) and takes pride in assisting other clinicians from all over the United States as they obtain their CSAT credential. Steven was honored to receive the 2017 Idaho Counseling Association Distinguished Service Medal of Honor Award.
