Getting PR for your startup can be a very powerful tool for early exposure and growth. Without strategy and planning, it can also be a sinkhole of time and resources with minimal return. We’ve pulled together a group of the smartest people we know in startup & tech PR to help entrepreneurs think through the best way to pursue PR at their startups.

The Panelists

  • Mallory Blair, Co-founder & CEO of Small Girls PR (@yourpalmal) - Mallory is the CEO and Co-founder of Small Girls PR. They represent brands as large as GE, Cartoon Network, Verizon, and Ann Taylor alongside popular startups such as TaskRabbit, Rent the Runway & Hinge. They're known for individualized reporter outreach, creative work (stunts, events, influencer marketing) and having a tight-knit company culture. Mallory is a Forbes 30 Under 30 for Marketing & Advertising, and one of Business Insider's top publicists.
  • Joe Ziemer, Vice President of Communications at Betterment (@joeziemer) - Betterment is the largest automated investment service, with more than 270,000 clients and $10 billion in assets under management. Joe runs communications and policy initiatives for Betterment and played a key role in their growth. Prior to Betterment, Joe was a Director at Triplepoint, a communications firm.
  • Amy Snook, Head of Communications at Glossier (@amylauren6) - Glossier is an online beauty startup known for its large and devoted following. In 2017, Glossier was named one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Startups, and one of LinkedIn's Top Companies. Amy oversees Glossier's communications, influencer, community, social, and editorial strategy, and maintains Glossier's pop culture relevance.
  • Emma Frane, PR Director at Casper (@emma_frane) - Casper is an online mattress company that has been named one of Fast Company's 25 Most Innovative Companies and one of Time Magazine's 25 Best Inventions. Emma led the shift in Casper's narrative from just one mattress to a whole suite of sleep products. Prior to Casper, she oversaw corporate communications at Kate Spade and also worked at Edelman for Unilever brands such as Dove.
