P&P Live! Misty Copeland | BUNHEADS with Jocelyn Noveck
Event Information
About this Event
It’s young Misty’s first ballet class, and she can’t wait to audition for one of the lead roles in Coppélia--a ballet about a young couple, a manipulative toymaker, and his beautiful doll. Misty is nervous, but pushes through her fears with the help of an encouraging teacher, supportive new friends, and her powerful love of dance. Inspired by the world-famous dancer’s early experiences in ballet classes, this gorgeously illustrated picture book is an empowering celebration of passion and friendship.
Misty Copeland made history in 2015 when she was the first Black woman to be promoted to principal dancer at American Ballet Theatre, one of the most prominent classical ballet companies in the world. She is also the author of the award-winning picture book Firebird. Ages 5-9.
In conversation with longtime culture writer at The Associated Press, Jocelyn Noveck. Along with the arts, she also frequently covers gender issues such as women in politics and the #MeToo movement. She is a former foreign correspondent in Paris and Jerusalem.
