The POWER Org Math and Financial Empowerment Series will engage youth and families in Metro Detroit to improve math skills and practices related to money management, consumer awareness, banking, and stocks.

Sessions will be facilitated by POWER Org Math team members, finance and industry professionals. Workbooks, case studies, online research, games, simulations and a culminating presentation are included.



Session 1 (12/9/17): Crytography, Cryptograms and Cryptocurrency Intro featuring Kwaku Osei, CEO of Capital

Session 2 (1/20/18): Money Management (Budgets, saving, spending habits)

Session 3 (1/27/18): Banking (accounts, cards, loans)

Session 4 (2/10/18): Banking or investment institution visit

Session 5 (2/24/18): Wealthy Habits for Tweens and Teens featuring Dorethia Kelly (author of The MineyChat book)

Session 6 (3/10/18): TBD Simulation; offsite

Session 7 (3/24/18): Investments and stocks (Investing in what you consume)

Session 8 (4/21/18): MONEY SMART WEEK Partner site | Tween and Teen Math and Money Game Show

Session 9 (4/28/18): MONEY SMART WEEK Partner site | Tween and Teen Investing In You

Session 10 (5/5/18): Case study, investments and research; post assessment

Session 11 (5/19/18): Culminating Project Presentation Day



There is no fee to participate. Parents and adult family members are encouraged to participate, but are not required to attend.

Light refreshments will be served. Metered street level parking is available while the nearby parking lot is completed.
