2nd Annual Powerless to Powerful Event
This mental and physical health event, started by Michaila DeVore, will get your mind clear, your body lean and your soul happy. Audience members will hear first hand accounts of two speakers dealing with mental health issues, the affects of bullying and the importance of self-acceptance. Members will also have the chance to participate in a 45 minute yoga class for all levels after the presentations.
Proceeds from event will benefit the Children’s Miracle Network.
As Miss Laurel Highlands’ Outstanding Teen, Michaila’s Platform, "Powerless to Powerful, Emerging from the Depths of Bullying", addresses how to deal with bullies, and also how to reach out for help when being bullied. She communicates the importance of loving yourself during difficult times. Michaila dedicates time going into schools and sharing her story of struggle, heartache, perseverance and strength; while providing hope to those experiencing similar situations. Michaila is currently a High School Junior at Saegertown High School.
Jordan Corcoran, Creator of Listen, Lucy:
Jordan Corcoran went to Mercyhurst College. During her freshman year, she was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Panic Disorder. After going through a very difficult struggle with coming to terms and learning to cope with these disorders, Jordan created an outlet where people can openly and candidly share their own challenges and personal struggles. She speaks publicly to college, high school and middle school students about her story, Listen, Lucy and the importance of acceptance-- of others and of yourself. She is the author of Listen, Lucy Volume I and has been featured on Today.com as well as UpWorthy.com for her self love campaigns. She recently filmed The Acceptance Movement docu-series which features her speaking to 10 schools and organizations in the United States and revealing the powerful impact this organization can have on an individual. Her mission is simple- she wants to create a less judgmental, more accepting world.
Yoga will be taught by the extremely talented Shawna Ferguson.
