Event description
Together, Dallas can harness the power of social emotional development to build equitable communities.

About this Event

Join Dallas elected officials and community advocates for “A Night with Arne Duncan, former U.S. Director of Education” on April 27, 2020, 7pm, at the Texas Theater.

After his extensive experience in education as the former U.S. Secretary of Education and Chief Executive Officer of Chicago Public Schools, Arne Duncan is dedicated to sharing power with those in communities as the experts of the uplift they want to see. Through his work with the Emerson Collective and personal story of reconciliation with Billy Moore, a brilliant life coach in Chicago, Arne is more aware than ever how systems of economic empowerment rooted in social emotional learning are the key to building equitable communities. Come hear about the power of social emotional learning and trauma-to-healing systems as Dallas embraces this movement to secure its future.

William Moore served 20 years in prison for the tragic death of Ben Wilson, a revered high school basketball player in Chicago. Once released, he obtained employment with the Safer Foundation as a job coach, where he worked for nine years. During his tenure, he helped returning citizens obtain employment and worked to reduce recidivism before joining IMAN in 2017. There, he is working in the Green ReEntry program undertaking the task of transforming young men lives who are at most risk for being shot and shooting someone.
