Event description

Description

Based upon Dr. Ruby K. Payne’s book, A Framework for Understanding Poverty, this session will help those who work with students or adults from poverty. Discussed will be how individuals from poverty, middle and upper economic classes all think and act differently based upon the social cues or “hidden rules” that govern how people think and interact in society.

Topics covered will include the role of language – from formal to casual registers, identifying the resources of an individual, patterns in case studies, story structure, the importance of relationship building and the hidden rules of each economic class.

Speaker:

Kerri J. Wade MSW

Families & Health Extension Agent

Assistant Director - Families and Health Unit
