About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

In this pottery workshop, you'll learn all of the beginner essentials for wheel throwing, like wedging, centering, opening, and pulling walls, in addition to meditative breathing and bodily control. You'll be guided through each step with demos, instructions, and personalized tips in an encouraging space! We will aim for a goblet or matcha bowl-shaped piece, which means it can look more like a cup or bowl depending on the person throwing it.

The goals for this workshop are to explore a new art form, have fun, and make something with your hands! Ceramics is one of the most meditative mediums, connecting us with ourselves, the earth, and all elements. Go ahead and enjoy time out full of good vibes, goofiness, and mud! :)

Your pieces will be ready for pick up approximately 3-4 weeks after the event (or can be shipped to you for an additional $10 fee). Pottery/ceramics needs to be fired in a kiln twice (once for bisque and the second for glaze) which takes multiple days. Once glaze fired, the pieces will be non-toxic and safe to use for drinking, and eating; they can be put in the dishwasher and microwave but NOT in or on the stove. Both firings are included in the workshop fee and you get to pick how you want your piece to be glazed (colored) in the end!

All classes and workshops are open to anyone over the age of 10 years old, any person under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Note: Shahane will be the instructor! She has taught pottery since 2016, got her BFA in ceramic arts in 2015 with a double minor in art history and psychology, and owns Pudgy's Place with her husband Phillip :)

Frequently asked questions

Is there parking?

Yes! There is parking in front of our business and an adjacent parking lot should more spots be needed.

Can we use the pieces we make in this workshop?

Yes! If there is no crack or hole in the bottom of your bowl/cup/plate then you may use it to eat and drink. The clay and glazes when fully fired are non-toxic and fully functional.

What is the mess level?

We can't lie, you'll probably get a little messy, but that's part of the fun! We have large aprons but we suggest coming with a change of clothes if you're going out after or wearing clothes you don't care too much about. The clay will come out of your clothes in the wash, though! :)

Do you fire the pieces?

YES! Both bisque and glaze firings are included in the workshop fee! :)

Do we get to choose the final color?

Yes! Before leaving for the day you'll fill out a quick, fun little form letting me know how you'd like your piece to be glazed (glaze is the colorful top coat that makes the pottery functional) :)

What if I don't want to (or can't) come and pick the piece up once it's done?

We can ship it to you for a small fee of $10! Or if you decide not to pick it up we will smash the piece after 30 days.

Will you let us know when the pieces are done?

Yes! We will send out an email to all participants from the event letting them know when the work is ready and the times/days they can be picked up. Usually, the turn around is 3 weeks - we need enough work to fill the kiln for 2 firing cycles.
