Potters Wheel – Taster Session
Get creative, get messy, and discover the magic of the potter’s wheel!
This fun, hands on taster session is perfect for complete beginners or anyone curious to give throwing a try.
With friendly expert tuition, you’ll be guided step-by-step through the key stages of making a pot on the wheel:
- Centering the clay
- Opening up the form
- Pulling up the walls
- Shaping your pot
You’ll have plenty of time to practise, make as many pieces as you like, and enjoy the calming, rhythmic process of working with clay. At the end of the session, you can choose your favourite two pots to be professionally glazed and fired, ready to collect at a later date.
Come solo, bring a friend or make it a date, no experience needed!

About us;
Louise is a ceramic artist and experienced tutor based in the Northeast of England. She studied Contemporary Decorative Crafts at Lincoln University, specialising in hand-built ceramics, and later honed her skills on the prestigious Ceramics Skills and Design Course in Thomastown, Ireland. There, she trained intensively in throwing, glazing, kiln firing, and glaze technology.
Louise has been working professionally in ceramics since 2019 and now creates her own range of work from her studio at Greenbank. Her pieces have been exhibited in galleries across the UK and Ireland, including in Kilkenny, Dublin, Wexford, York, and Halifax.
Alongside her studio practice, Louise is passionate about sharing her love of clay through teaching. She runs friendly, hands-on weekly pottery classes and taster sessions designed for all skill levels, whether you're a complete beginner or looking to develop your technique. Louise also works part-time as an art tutor at a local college, supporting young adults with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Her teaching style is warm, patient, and encouraging, creating a welcoming environment where creativity can flourish.
Finding the studio;
The studio is based in Greenbank, Hartlepool, TS247QS.
Please note - this postcode will take you to the side of the building, the picture below is the front, which is where you need to be.
If you are attending a weekday (mon-fri) class or workshop the main gates will be open (look out for the red lions either side) drive/walk up and park in any available space. You can also park on the road outside, on the same side of the building, its free. Note, parking in front of the shops is time restricted.
Then come to the door on the right hand side, theres an intercom, press "suite 5" and I'll let you in. Alternatively come in the main doors and ill find you there.
If you are attending a weekend (sat/sun) class or workshop the main entrance gates will be locked.
To the right side there is another entrance, it says "private carpark" on the wall. Drive/walk up there until you reach the building. Park in any available space.

Additional Info;
- No experience necessary.
- Bring an apron if you have one.
- Dont wear your "best" clothes.
