Event description

Description

Tim's and OWLVFD are hosting The Potomac Plunge, this year to benefit St. Baldrick's Foundation, dedicated to conquering childhood cancer. Worldwide, 300,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. In the U.S., more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease.
St. Baldrick's was formed in 1999; in 2003 it was made into the foundation we know today and has raised over $282 million dollars for cancer research. Come out and help support the worthy cause!

100% OF YOUR PLUNGE DONATIONS WILL GO TO ST. BALDRICK'S FOUNDATION

FAQs:
What is the Potomac Plunge?
Tim's has hosted a plunge at Tim's Rivershore for the last 18 years. All funds raised this year will go to the St. Baldrick's Foundation to conquer childhood cancer.
Individuals can sign up alone or form a team. You raise money - getting everyone to donate in your name (and/or team name.) Only donations made through our links will count - do not create a social media fundraiser on your own please! There will be prizes for most money raised by an individual and most raised by a team.
The day of the event, registration starts at 10 am. You will arrive, check in with your ticket, sign your waiver and receive your bib and t-shirt. There will be lots to do-great music to enjoy courtesy of Stormin' Norman, lots of vendors to shop and support, plenty of raffles available for purchasing tickets and the costume contests! Tim's will be open for food and beverage purchases. Around noon teams will start plunging-you can go as far in to the water as you would like. Tents are available for changing.

Where do I park?
There is limited available parking. There will be a shuttle service between Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School and Tim's Rivershore.
The address for Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School is:
Potomac Shores, 17700 Dominican Dr, Dumfries, VA 22026
Due to the expected crowd, please leave your pets at home, only service animals will be allowed on-site. No outside food or beverages are allowed.

What do I need to wear?
Ideally you will wear something made for getting wet, but whatever you would like to wear, wear it! One of the great things about the plunge is the costumes!!! We will have prizes for best individual costume and best team theme. Water shoes are recommended - you are walking in to the Potomac River. You should bring a towel, and do not forget a change of dry clothes, dry shoes, and something to put the wet clothes in after changing.
THIS IS AN EVENT FOR ALL AGES, PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL COSTUMES AND ATTIRE ARE APPRORIATE FOR ALL EYES!

What are the hours?
Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. with the goal of plungers starting to enter the water around noon. The plunge, raffles and all prize awarding should be completed by 4:00 p.m.

Do you have to be 18?
We do allow minors to plunge, with their parent or legal guardian's permission and the parent/guardian MUST be present with the minor. Anyone can plunge, as long as they have raised a minimum of $100 in donations.

How deep is the water?
You are walking in to the Potomac River from the beach, no diving allowed

Can I bring donations with me?
Yes, you can bring cash donations on the day of the plunge. However, these donations can not be accounted for ahead of time, so there is no guarantee you will be able to receive the special t-shirt for raising over $100.
Donations brought on the day of the plunge will still count toward individual and/or team total for the contest for highest donation amount.
We welcome people to sign up on the day of the plunge, however we will not have t-shirts for last minute sign ups.

What if I end up not being able to attend?
Your donations will still go to St. Baldrick's! Because St. Baldrick's is a 501(c)3 charity, all donations are tax deductible. Since 100% of donations are going to charity, it is not refundable.
Is there a rain date?
The Potomac Plunge will be held rain or shine on February 29th. While we are targeting 12:00 as the plunging start time, we may delay it by an hour or so. If there is an extreme weather situation we will post here or announce at the plunge itself.

I'm a vendor, how can I have a table?
Vendors are very welcome and you will have a spot reserved in exchange for a $20 donation. You will need to provide your own tables. We also ask that you donate an item for our raffle table. Please email Andi@timsrivershore.com for further information and to notify us of your intentions. We will avoid having duplicate vendors; spots will be given on a first come, first serve basis.

I'm not a vendor but have something I think is worth raffling, what do I do?
Thank you for your interest! We LOVE having lots of raffles to offer people! Please email andi@timsrivershore.com with a description and a picture.

What if I just want to donate and not plunge?
Awesome! Do you know someone else that will be plunging? Donate in their name here! If you just want to make a donation, please use this link:

Kids with cancer need your support!

Can I come and just watch?

Of course, by all means! Everything is open to the public-take part in the raffles, support the vendors, enjoy food and beverage and listening to the music. Bring your positive attitude to cheer on the plungers!
