Event description

Description

Western Pennsylvania has a long history as a leader in producing energy. Pittsburgh became a world leader as a steel producer in part because of the abundance of coal needed to heat enormous furnaces and the power of our rivers to help with transportation. Western Pennsylvania is home to the first US commercial oil well (1859) and the first full-scale nuclear power plant (1957) in the US. Pennsylvania is currently the second largest net supplier of energy to other states. Pennsylvania ranks second only to Texas in natural gas production and is the third highest electricity-generating state in the nation.

Cornell School District is hosting a student showcase and panel discussion on May 9th from 12 - 2 PM in our Elementary Makerspace. At this event, you will have the opportunity to meet our students and faculty to learn about the projects they are working on and to participate in a student-led panel discussion with industry professionals on the future of energy production in our region. Food and drinks will be provided.
