Event description

Description

This is part of our Lunch & Learn series on suicide prevention and mental health. Please feel free to bring your lunch to the event.

In this workshop, we will address how suicide postvention is a crucial component of suicide prevention. Research indicates that the response to grief, trauma and distress after a suicide-loss impacts the well-being of those left behind, and can heighten or lessen vulnerabilities to a myriad of mental health issues. At the conclusion of this seminar, care providers will have basic understanding of challenges and lessons of suicide-loss grief and best practices to support and guide families.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

1) Become familiar with the Responding to Grief, Trauma and Distress after a Suicide: US National Guidelines.

2) Understand the terms “postvention” and “suicide loss survivor” and their importance to clinical practice.

3) Become familiar with common grief reactions after a suicide loss and ways to support children and families through this grief process.
