Thu, November 16, 2017, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM EST
Event Details: POSTPONED UNTIL FALL 2017 - UPDATES AT www.LeadingAgeGA.org
Innovation often comes from unexpected places! And Ideas that change the future of aging are just the kind of thing that the LeadingAge Georgia, Georgia Tech Aware Home | Tools for Life, Wireless RERC, and Canterbury Court Collaborative are looking for when it hosts the 2017 LeadingAge HackFest Atlanta. Not your typical hackathon, HackFest is focused on creating technology to address the challenges of aging.
Who should Register:
Like most hacking events, we’re looking for: Front-End & Back-End Developers.
However, unlike most hacking events, we want:
• Designers • Marketers • Gerontologists • Aging Services Professionals • Business Experts • Clinicians •Elders/Consumers...or anyone passionate about the field of aging!
A major goal of HackFest is to create teams of people with a variety of skills and knowledge to develop a tool (app, website, interactive online experience or a device) that addresses the challenges of aging. These tools will be judged by a panel of experts on originality, usability, feasibility, design relevance, and on being the “most developed” by the end of the HackFest session. Winning teams will win cash prizes and the first place team will win airfare, hotel accommodations and conference access to the 2017 LeadingAge Annual Meeting & EXPO in New Orleans, LA from October 29 - November 1, 2017 to compete nationally.
The LeadingAge GA Hackfest Pre-qualifying event will be at Canterbury Court Continuing Care Retirement Community, a senior living community located in Buckhead-Atlanta, GA (once you have registered the full schedule will be provided).
Please apply as an individual. Our coordinators will develop teams of 4 to 6 participants. You may indicate if you want to be on a team with others from your university, if you’re a student.
Remember: not everyone who applies will be accepted. AND, you must be 18 years of age to participate.
The application period closes on Tuesday, March 14, at 11:30 p.m.
We’ll give you a thumbs up or a thumbs down about your application by March 16.
Your deposit is 100% refundable (including the EventBrite charge), which means we’ll give it back to you once you actually show up at Canterbury and participate in our HackFest. If you don’t show up, we will probably spend it. Just sayin’…
Aaaand, as always, please read and accept the HackFest official rules and legal disclosures (included as a waiver on the registration page).
If you have any questions, shoot an email over to jthornton@LeadingAgeGA.org
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
18 years of age or older.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
What's the refund policy?
Your fee of $35.00, plus transaction fee by Eventbrite is fully refundable when you arrive at Canterbury Court for the Hackathon on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10 a.m.
Legal Mumbo Jumbo
By registering for LeadingAge Georgia Hackfest you agree that you have read, understand and agree with the following rules and hold harmless LeadingAge Georgia and HackFest collaborative partners:
The LeadingAge Georgia HackFest (“HackFest") is sponsored and administered by LeadingAge Georgia
Each HackFest participant is subject to these rules (collectively, the Official Rules). By participating in the HackFest, participants agree to be bound by the official rules as well as the decision of all the judges, whose decisions are final and binding on all participants and aspects of the HackFest.
HackFest participants compete on teams. Participants will be assigned a team 2 weeks prior to the event. Teams will be selected and assigned based on a first-come, first-served basis and the skills needed to round out a team.
During the competition, each team is to create a new tool, along with a business plan for their tool (together called a “Submission”). The tool can be an application, a website, an on-line application, or even a device. Each team will have the opportunity to demonstrate their Submission and provide an oral audio/visual presentation to the judges describing why their Submission would be successful.
Any coding and building for the Submission must be performed during the HackFest. Any additional requirements concerning Submission will be specified in the Official Rules or provided during the HackFest
Submission will be judged using the following criteria, applied in the sole discretion of the judges
- Most “developed” status by the end of the session
Any Submission that, in the opinion of the sponsor or the judges, does not comply with these restrictions will be automatically disqualified and not eligible to win. Submissions may not contain any content that:
Is inappropriate or which does not relate to the subject matter of the HackFest.
