Description

ACR's Fire Forward and Sonoma State University’s Center for Environmental Inquiry present:

Home Hardening for Wildfire

As North Bay communities learn to “live with fire,” growing attention has been called to the importance of "home hardening". Please join us and learn how to make your home more resilient against wildfire during this hands-on workshop:

  • Receive expert instruction on how to "harden" your home against the next wildfire.
  • Take a tour of a typical building in Sonoma County's W.U.I., with all of its classic issues.
  • Get hands-on experience correcting those issues and learn about forest stewardship while walking through the beautiful Fairfield Osborn Preserve.

Location: Fairfield Osborn Preserve's education center, Lichau Rd, Penngrove, CA 94951. (Driving directions can be found at http://cei.sonoma.edu/preserves/osborn)

Time: Saturday, April 25, 2020, 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Leader: Jared Childress, Prescribed Fire Specialist, Fire Forward

Jared identifies and implements prescribed fire projects throughout the North Bay region (ACR and partner lands), leads fire related workshops and does extensive community organizing around getting “good fire” on the ground. Jared is the co-chair for both the Bay Area Prescribed Fire Council and Sonoma’s prescribed burn association, The Good Fire Alliance. Having grown up on a coastal California ranch, Jared’s work has centered around the stewardship of diverse CA rangelands and the relationships of the people on those working lands.

Audubon Canyon Ranch’s Fire Forward brings a unique blend of science-based program design and community organizing to our region as it seeks to become a model of fire-adapted communities tending fire-adapted landscapes. Learn more about this program at https://www.egret.org/fire-forward.
