Program Description

Effective team management is essential for the growth and success of any company. Leaders understand the benefits of a strong management teams, however, there are many different philosophies and approaches to achieve this goal. Successful leaders invest their time and effort to identifying and attracting strong players by assessing what kind of skills and talents are needed, recruiting leaders and giving them the authority and flexibility to make decisions.

Speaker Bios

Jeff Barrett, President and CEO, J-Pac Medical

Jeff Barrett is the President and CEO of J-Pac Medical, a leading manufacturing outsourcing partner to leading medical device companies. Jeff has more than 25 years of experience building high-growth medical device companies from initial funding through IPO.

Jeff held CEO positions at GI Supply and Optim LLC and Vice President of Operations roles at Haemonetics (NYSE: HAE) and Aspect Medical Systems (Acquired by Covidien). He is also a successful entrepreneur. By applying his operational and engineering know-how, Barrett founded Eggrock Modular Solutions, which became a disruptive business in the building technology industry.

Barrett holds an MBA from Boston University’s Graduate School of Management and a B.S. in industrial engineering and B.A. in economics from Rutgers University.

Ben Bulkley, Industry Advisor, Seven Peaks Ventures

Ben has led transformations, turnarounds, and growth missions in numerous healthcare and technology sectors. GE trained, he is a systems-minded CEO, with a track record of successfully tackling complex growth challenges. He has always attracted outstanding talent and accomplished long lasting results with extraordinary commitment and humility.

Ben was most recently CEO of Envision Rx Options, a $6B pharmacy services company (owned by RiteAid) where he led a turnaround growing adjusted EBITDA by 50% after three years of declines. Prior to this, Ben was Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Trellis Rx, a PE sponsored company building patient-centered specialty pharmacies for health systems. First revenue was generated within nine months from incorporation and accumulated $150MM in contract backlog in its first year of operation.

Ben led a turnaround of Aetna’s Pharmacy business, part of his Specialty Businesses, a $4B group which included Pharmacy, Behavioral Health, and its TPA business. Ben previously served as Chief Executive of Ivenix (IV drug management) and before that, as Chief Operating Officer of Allscripts, leading a turnaround of two of its businesses to enable a merger in 2008. Ben led Invitrogen (a life sciences company now part of Thermo Fisher) as SVP of Global Commercial Operations transforming its go-to-market operating model and growing the business more than 60% in three years.

Over a 17-year tenure with General Electric, Ben led the start-up of high growth programs, ventures, and divisions growing organic and acquired businesses. He started with GE Transportation Systems in the Edison Engineering leadership program, and finished with GE Healthcare where he led the turnaround of a global medical device service business.

Ben holds an MPH from The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut, and an MS in Systems Engineering from Gannon University. His public health focus at Dartmouth was studying businesses’ role shaping the health of their communities.

Ben most recently served on the board of the AAMI Foundation (improving patient safety) and as an executive committee member on the board of PCMA (pharmacy benefits advocacy). He is also an advisor to ReThink Health (health change-makers) and Seven Peaks Ventures (Bend, Oregon).

Eric Roman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Pace Analytical

Eric Roman is President and Chief Executive Officer of Pace Analytical, LLC., an industry leading innovative analytical testing, data and services business that creates and delivers critical information to the environmental, chemical, healthcare and life sciences industries.

Mr. Roman brings with him a successful track record where he has led and grew a diversity of businesses spanning products and services from heavy industry to medical devices to biotechnology. Previously, Mr. Roman was the President of the Laboratory Products Division at Thermo Fisher Scientific, a company serving the world of science. Prior to joining Thermo Fisher Scientific, Mr. Roman spent 25 years with GE, initially as an application engineer at GE Transportation Systems and ultimately leading global business units within GE Healthcare’s Life Sciences business.

Mr. Roman received a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with Distinction from The Ohio State University.

Mike Travis, Principal, Travis & Company

Mike Travis is the leader of Travis & Company, a boutique executive search firm based in the Boston area. He has been recruiting CEOs, C-level staff and Board members for more than 25 years. He serves a wide variety of clients, from Fortune 100 businesses to early-stage startups, and has worked with companies with private equity, venture capital, family and public ownership.

Mike is the author of Mastering the Art of Recruiting (Praeger, 2015). He’s been recognized by BusinessWeek, which named him one of "The World's Most Influential Headhunters.”

Mike is involved with not-for-profit organizations that address cancer and food insecurity, including Family Reach, which addresses the financial burden of a cancer diagnosis, where he sits on the National Advisory Board, and the Greater Boston Food Bank, where he's an Emeritus Board Member.

Elijah A. White, President, ZOLL Medical Corporation

Mr. White was named President of the ZOLL Resuscitation division in October 2018. He joined ZOLL as Vice President of Marketing in 2012 with responsibilities for the global marketing and strategy of the company’s resuscitation portfolio. Prior to ZOLL, Mr. White led North American marketing efforts at Haemonetics. Earlier, he held general management and marketing leadership positions at Orthofix and Medtronic cardiology. Mr. White has also served as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy and holds an MBA and a B.A. from Harvard University.
