Dan Crary: He is a musical legend, a pioneer of one of the most intricate, yet powerful, forms of American music, and a master of the guitar; he’s Dan Crary, a flatpicking stylist with an international reputation for innovation, taste and brilliance. With more than 50 years as a performer, Crary is one of the few artists whose work can be said to transcend the boundaries of style and genre. http://dancrary.com/

Bill Evans: “Bill Evans does for the five-string banjo what Van Gogh did for colour . . .treats it in a different way and then shares it with you. And his recent release 'In Good Company' is a virtuoso master class in exploring bluegrass from the tradition to the far edges of alternative.” —Tom Franks, FolkWords

Wally Barnick: I knew that when he played with our band it was by the grace of God! He is now in the musical company he deserves, and they in turn deserve him, he is that good!  - Magnus Torén, singer in a band. https://wallybarnickmusic.com/

Bill Evans Banjo Workshop Description
90 minutes

Bluegrass Banjo Jam Survival Skills (all levels): Unlock the mysteries of knowing what to play in a jam session! This workshop is designed for students who are totally new to playing with others and also for those who are already jamming but want to gain more confidence and have more fun playing in both slow and regular speed jams. Topics include the role of the banjo in a jam, how jamming is different from playing memorized songs learned from tab and how to quickly pick up chord changes using your ear by following the guitar and using listening skills to find your way through a song you might be hearing for the first time. You’ll learn how to play with others using roll patterns and vamping techniques along with playing up-the-neck backup and fill-in licks, kicking off and ending tunes, and using the capo to play in all keys. This is a practical, hands-on-and-let’s play kind of workshop that will help both new and experienced jammers. Tab included but we’ll mostly play without reading tab.

Who’s Bill Evans? The author of Banjo For Dummies and Bluegrass Banjo For Dummies, Bill Evans has taught thousands of players over a 40-year teaching and performing career. Bill has taught at virtually every banjo camp in the world and has shared the stage with Dan Crary & Wally Barnick, J. D. Crowe, Tony Trischka, Alan Munde, David Bromberg, the Steep Canyon Rangers, Peter Rowan, David Grisman and many others. He has produced nine instructional DVDs and teaches online banjo courses at Peghead Nation (www.pegheadnation.com). Learn more at www.billevansbanjo.com or www.youtube.com/BillEvansBanjo.
