Please note the following event update: After discussion and consideration around the permanency of the signs on site the curators of Refuge in Refuse have decided to not post the signs this weekend to preserve the opportunity to have the signed legally sanctioned in the future. The City of Albany and park system is undecided as to the future of the bulb and we would like to be considered to participate in the future.

In lieu of the Adopt a Sign event, Refuge in Refuse Curator, Robin Lasser, will conduct an informal tour of the Albany Bulb from 1–3pm on Saturday April 25. Meet at the Albany Waterfront bird sculpture at 1:00 PM. If you would attend please email Robin at rjlasser@earthlink.net. There will also be informal events held by the Landfillians throughout the day.

Original event description: On the 1-year anniversary of the eviction of the residents of the Albany Bulb, join Refuge in Refuse organizers Robin Lasser and Danielle Siembieda at the Albany Bulb to honor its former residents. Adopt one of many artist-created park signs that tells the story of a former resident and participate in an interventionist artwork by installing the signs at former campsites. Let their lives at the Bulb be remembered rather than swept away forever by bulldozers. Please RSVP on EventBrite!

About Refuge in Refuse: Homesteading Art & Culture Project:
For more than two decades artists, recreationalists, and the homeless have shared the Albany Bulb, a decommissioned landfill peninsula located along the east shore of the San Francisco Bay, creating infrastructure and exploring borders between public and private urban space. The group exhibition Refuge in Refuse: Homesteading Art & Culture Project includes audio stories, video, photography, painting, sculpture, interventions, and 3D scans reflecting the intersections of architecture, art, ecology and community at the Bulb. Read more…
