Event description
Hack for the Community allows Nashville's tech talent to share their expertise in order to build capacity for area nonprofits.

About this Event

Postponed due to COVID-19 concerns

Thank you for yoru interest in Hack for the Community. Especially during these unusual times, it is even more important for us to support each other and our community. We know many of you are taking steps to protect and help your colleagues, family and community. Due to the nature of the hack-a-thon style event and current guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we have made the decision to postpone Hack for the Community until the fall. We will announce the rescheduled date in the coming months.

We ask that you stick with us. We will be pausing active volunteer recruitment, but those who have already registered will have the option to keep the volunteer spot they registered for, cancel their registration or switch to a new project. We will re-open volunteer registration later this summer.Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Hack for the Community!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Hack for the Community!

This 36-hour hackathon brings together Nashville's top IT professionals to build tech solutions for nonprofits that do critical work in our community.

To sign up to serve on a team, click "Register" above then find and select the project of your choice. If you are willing to serve on any project, you can register for the "Floating Designer" option, and we will connect you with whichever project needs you most. Please only register for one project.

All volunteers will participate in an hour-long virtual volunteer orientation on either Friday, March 27 at noon or Friday, April 3 at 8:30 a.m. During these sessions, we will share all the details about how the event works and what to expect. Until then, here are some important highlights:

  • Commitment: Volunteers must participate on both April 16 and 17. Sign-in starts at 7 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, and the event concludes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17. Each team will define its own schedule inside this 36-hour window based on its members' needs.
  • No all-nighters: The venue will close at 11 p.m. on April 16 and reopen at 7 a.m. on April 17, so no volunteers will stay overnight.
  • Volunteering during the workday: All Hack for the Community Business Partners support their employees’ participation in this special initiative. Please check with your individual supervisor for approval and information about how to document your participation.
  • Devices: We encourage you to use your personal laptop for this event. Please check with your employer before using your work laptop.
  • Food and Drink: We will provide plenty of sustenance to fuel your work throughout the event with options for a variety of dietary considerations.
