Postmarks & Paperbacks: September Meeting

Online event
Postmarks & Paperbacks is an online book club for lovers of books, letters, and the art and history of communication.
About this event
Postmarks & Paperbacks meets quarterly to discuss postal-themed books, including a range of selections drawing from epistolary novels, popular history books about the USPS or philately, and novels in which letters, the post office, or stamps play a central role. We think you’ll be surprised and delighted by the range of books this encompasses.
For our September meeting, we'll be discussing Marcel's Letters: A Font and the Search for One Man's Fate by Carolyn Porter. Porter's hunt for inspiration led her to a discovery of a stash of old letters in an antique shop. These letters propelled her on a journey to uncover one man's fate in WWII and ultimately to developing the acclaimed P22 Marcel font. Carolyn Porter will make a special appearance as a guest at our September Postmarks & Paperbacks and will be available for questions from program participants.
Each Zoom book club discussion will be led by a Postal Museum staff member. Participants are encouraged to leave their cameras on to facilitate discussion, although this is not mandatory.
For questions about accessibility, or to request live captioning for this program, please email NPMPrograms@si.edu two weeks in advance with requests.
Registration is required and limited for this free, virtual program. A Zoom link will be sent to participants 24 hours before the program.
