Postdoctoral Careers Beyond Academia: Thursday 8 December 2016, University of Stirling, 10am-5.30pm
Postdoctoral fellowships can be hard to come by, and lectureships even more difficult to secure, in today’s difficult funding climate. And not all postgraduate researchers want a career in university teaching and research in any case! But, while scientists often follow a well-trodden path into industry, it is not always obvious what other careers than academia might suit and excite a new PhD in an arts, humanities or social science field – nor how to make your valuable doctoral skills visible and attractive to potential employers.
This day conference for PhD students in the arts, humanities and social sciences will help you explore these questions. The programme includes short talks from eight successful arts, humanities and social science PhDs pursuing careers outside university teaching and research; a workshop from the Scottish Institute for Enterprise; and a networking lunch.
