We will be looking at key areas in post-school transition planning including:
Leaving School and the Law - Education authorites have legal duties to plan for individuals leaving school. We'll cover what these duties are under the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004, the Equality Act 2010 and the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014.
Best practice in transitions for young people - ARC Scotland have specific experience in transition planning. We'll look at best practice and some of the steps parents can take to get the best possible outcomes.
Applying for guardianship - Parental rights and responsibilites end on the young person's 16th birthday. We'll look at the court application process and how parents can make sure they can continue to make decisions.
Speakers are Iain Nisbet (Solicitor specialising in Education Law), Nicola Smith (Solicitor specialising in Incapacity Law) and Scott Read (Development Officer, ARC Scotland)
The event will be of particular interest to parents of young people with disabilities or additional support needs and professionals working in the fields of education, social work or the voluntary sector. It will also be relevant to solicitors and other practitioners dealing with post-school transition.
Tickets purchased by parents and carers can be used towards the cost of individual legal advice. We have a limited number of free tickets available for those who could not otherwise attend. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
