Is your agency ready to deal with the aftermath of a disaster?

We want YOU trained to serve your community as a Disaster Service Worker! Register today and join us for a Safety Assessment Program (SAP) training to become an Evaluator or Coordinator. 

 

Professionally registered engineers, geologists, licensed architects, certified building officials and inspectors, PW inspectors with Division IV certificates will receive a State-issued Cal-OES ID card and are eligible for reimbursement when deployed.

 

All others will receive a certificate and be issued an ID card when they obtain credentials.

 

Workshop Benefits:

  • Explore the criteria for assessing degree of severity of damage in buildings and lifeline systems

  • Find out about FEMA reimbursement criteria
  • Learn the liability protection laws for responders
  • Learn to protect your personal safety and experience a full lesson on preparedness

Evaluator Training will prepare licensed engineers, architects, and building inspectors to conduct safety evaluations on buildings and other infrastructure. 

Coordinator Training will prepare local representatives and others to manage the logistics of the program in your community: how to estimate the local needs for the Evaluators, how to request them, and how to manage them and the information they gather.

                 Check-In/ Day-of Registration:  November 6, 2018, 8:00 a.m.

                   Registration Fee:                     Evaluator Class: $145 (ASCE members $125)

                                                                  Coordinator Class: $55, held 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

 

Class supplies, lunch, and refreshments will be provided

SAP has been used successfully in responding to disasters including the Northridge, Napa, and San Simeon earthquakes in California, as well as Hurricane Katrina


Trainers

Sudi Shoja, PE, F.ASCE, Certified SAP Trainer

For the past 28 years, Sudi has been responding to earthquake events locally and internationally. She is a certified trainer and presents nationally on emergency-management topics. She is the chair of the EM Committee for APWA San Diego Chapter and ASCE OC& LA chapters and serves on several safety councils for school districts and other groups. She is a former City Engineer and is currently the Principal of Engineering Solutions Services (ESS).

 

Larry Pierce, PE, Certified Evaluator

Larry D. Pierce has more than 40 years of diversified experience in all aspects of planning, design, and construction management, including the management of large multiple construction and consulting contracts on a wide variety of projects such as pump stations, pipelines, reservoirs, municipal, flood control, military facilities, waterfront structures, airfields, airport terminals, building renovations and convention center facilities.

 

Mehdi Saberi, SE, Certified Evaluator

Mehdi Saberi is a registered structural engineer with more than 30 years of experience in structural design of commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. He has been served as an expert witness for the past decade for both plaintiffs and defendants in complex cases of damaged structures. He has personally trained several engineers on post-earthquake and fire inspections. Mehdi is considered a subject matter expert in seismic and structural reliability issues.
