Positive Support: Core Competency Refresher for Experienced Peers

This is a one-day training that will be be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from 9:30 - 4:30 at JRI Health-Framingham, MA. (Lunch will be provided)

The training will revisit relevant learning areas for peers working with people living with HIV/AIDS. Areas to be covered will include:

  • Peer definition, primary tasks and roles peers play in their work
  • HIV Basics: CD4 and Viral Load, HIV Drug Resistance, Transmission Basics, TASP, PrEP, and the Treatment Cascade
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI): OARS, Stages of Change and Harm Reduction
  • Boundaries: Professional/Personal and Confidentiality
  • Self Care for Peers: Strategies to avoid burnout and ways to get involved in broader community experiences
  • There will also be opportunites for small group sessions for peers to talk to other peers about the issues they experience

This training is suggested for experienced peers working in Part A Funded Psychosocial Support (Peer Support) programs funded by BPHC and MDPH/OHA. It is recommended every two years for peer staff who have already completd the longer 3 day Peer Competency Training.

It will be a great opportunity to meet colleagues and workshop together!

The training will be held at the JRI Health-Framingham. There is parking available onsite.
