Portley Family Reunion 2017
Sat, May 27, 2017, 1:00 PM – Mon, May 29, 2017, 8:00 AM CDT
Records show that the parents of Tommy Portley Sr., Nathan Portley, Daniel Webster Portley and Carrie Portley-Halton were born during slavery. Jeff Portley, their father, was born in 1837 in Alabama.
The same year that the civil war started, he married the love of his life, Emaline Thomas, near Henderson in Rusk County, Texas. She was a native Texas, also born in 1837. According to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, Jeff registered to vote for the first time on July 24, 1867, while living in Camden Texas, during the reconstruction of the South.
Let us never forget the sacrifices that our ancestors made. Any success that we may have attained in the world of sports, entertainment, politics, medicine, education, business and the corporate world, we owe it to those who blazed the trail before us.
Our family has flourished, in spite of the political climate during this time. Our family purchased land and owned large farms which not only provided food for the family, but produced income from the products sold at the market. Our family occupied more than 600 acres of land. Jeff and Emaline’s children raised their families on this land. At one time, it was called “The Portley Ranch.”
LAST DAY TO PAY ONLINE IS MAY 5, 2017. After that all payments need to be mailed or at the door on May 27.
