Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Portland Resource Generation is holding an open house! Meet new and existing members, learn about what we are up to, eat some snacks. Starting at 6:45pm we'll do a structured activity (welcome, intros and money stories), so please be here before then. Potential members, new members, people already involved with the chapter, and friends are all welcome! Please RSVP so we know how much food to get.

Note on location: there are 2 front steps leading up to the house. Please contact us in advance if needed so we can make the front door wheelchair-accessible!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (AKA "IS RG FOR ME?")

(Thank you to the Bay Area chapter for this amazing and informative Q&A)

Q: I came to an RG event a long time ago, but I haven't come to anything in quite a while. Am I welcome at this event?
A: Yes!

Q: I've heard about RG and have been curious about it, but I've never come to any events before and I'm nervous. Is this event the right place for me?
A: Yes!

Q: I have class privilege and my family has money, but I don't have personal wealth currently. Is RG for me?
A: Yes!

Q: I am an activist and I'm secretly wealthy. Very few people know how much money I really have. Is RG for me?
A: Yes!

Q: I am new to activism. I have class privilege and I care about social justice but I'm not sure where to start. Is RG for me?
A: Yes!

Q: I am a person of color and my parents are the first people in my family to build wealth. I have class privilege, but I definitely also experience racism, and most of my activism has been focused on that. Is RG for me?
A: Yes!

Q: Talking about my class privilege brings up a lot of strong feelings and it usually feels easier not to think about it. But I want to start figuring out how to talk about it and take action with other class privileged people for social justice in solidarity with working class and poor people. Is RG for me?
A: Yes!

Q: I have money and I'm not sure where it's invested. I'd like to move my money into socially responsible investments, but I'm not sure how. Is RG for me?
A: Yes!

Q: I have money and give a lot of it away. I'm trying to figure out the right balance between giving money away and keeping some for my own needs. Is RG for me?
A: Yes!

Q: I grew up poor or working class or middle class and now I am a tech worker and I'm making a lot more money than my family ever made. Is RG for me?
A: Yes!

Q: I have money and would like to give some of it away to friends, family, or organizations that need it, but it feels awkward. I usually give anonymous gifts, and I could be giving a lot more than I am. I'm not sure how to get started giving bigger gifts and I'm not sure how much money I should save for myself. Is RG for me?
A: Yes!

Q: I'm involved in my family's foundation and am trying to figure out how to encourage my family to give more money to progressive/grassroots/leftist/social justice causes. Is RG for me?
A: Yes!
