About this Event

The Music

PDXLX 2020 will feature LIVE swing and vintage jazz from some of the best bands in the Pacific Northwest. This year, we are honored to feature bands from our neighbors from the north and south. Seattle's Jonathan Ng will start the swingin' on Friday night, while Eugene's Stealin' Apples Jazz Band will keep everyone on their feet Saturday night.

We're also bringing you renowned international swing DJ Nick Davis, who will be spinning up sounds on Saturday evening. More DJs for Friday and Sunday night to be announced. Level Up Your Dancing

On Sunday, we'll have a PDXLX returning favorite - a super fun outdoor dance at Director Park featuring Portland swing stars the Hot Lovin' Jazz Babies.

Level Up Your Dancing

This year, PDXLX is expanding learning opportunities for Lindy Hop, Solo Jazz, Collegiate Shag, and Balboa. On Saturday, we’ll be hosting over 5 hours of workshops with some of our favorite instructors in the Pacific Northwest, featuring the incredibly talented Nika Jin from Eugene, who has won and placed in finals in many Lindy Hop and Solo Jazz competitions including the National Jitterbug Championships at Camp Jitterbug and Lindy Bout.

This year PDLX is also offering a workshops aimed at highlighting our amazing local instructors. Level-up your Lindy Hop with National Jitterbug Champions Austin Neverman and Kali Henson, and our local Lindy rockstars Melissa Roane and Colin Livesey.

PDLX will also offer drop-in lessons in Balboa, Collegiate Shag, and vintage line dances at the Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon dances, which are included with all of our weekend and single-event passes. These aren’t just any drop-ins though… we’ll be offering a variety of content at a range of skills levels, taught by some truly amazing dancers including Balboa Champions Josh McLaughlin and Emily Moore, shagamuffins Cassie Mae and Matt Hughey, and 2019 Spirit of Jeff Troupe Award winner Darcie Juarez.

Based on previous years, the Saturday workshops are expected to completely sell out so buy your tickets early to ensure a spot!

Also note that we are capping Workshop Passes to 60 people, and that workshops are included in all Weekend Passes. So buy a Weekend Pass today if you want to ensure your spot in the workshops!

Venues

Based on feedback from previous years, we’ve moved the Friday and Saturday evening dances to Portland’s Village Ballroom — Portland’s charity-focused historic ballroom, located above The Oregon Public House. Built in 1909 as an Odd Fellows Hall in the Woodlawn neighborhood of NE Portland, the Village Ballroom has an open ballroom with a beautiful mahogany bar, greeting room, climate control, and two ADA-accessible restrooms. The Ballroom also has excellent floors for swing dancing, which we care most about!

In addition to the official activities planned as part of PDXLX, we’ve included information on our Schedule of Events page about other places to swing out during your stay in Portland, including our PDXLX 2020 Unofficial Kick-Off Party at Thursday Swing! on Thursday, April 9.

You simply cannot afford to miss our incredible line-up of musicians, dancers, and instructors. Purchase your tickets to PDXLX 2020 today!
