Event Details

A gathering of people in the Portland area interested in Open Government, Gov 2.0, and ways that technology may expand and improve civic engagement. All are welcome!

Meet and compare notes with others interested in open government. Sarah Schacht, Director of Knowledge as Power, will speak on international standards for sharing government documents in a computer-readable format and the movement to get government documents speaking in the same tagged language.  She's just returned from an intensive training in Italy with international leaders and designers of XML standards for legislative and government documents.  Lucky for you, you get all the useful points of boiled down by Sarah, and none of the long, detailed lectures she had to sit through for nine hours a day. These XML standards help governments open up their information, prepare for future document technology, and share information across their government easily.

This is a 21+ event, with free wine, beer, and appetizers for attendees.  If you like, you can chip-in for the event at the door.

Join the OpenGovWest-PDX Google Group!

OpenGovWest-PDX was sparked by the Open Gov West conference held in Seattle in March ( which brought together a diverse range of government folks, electeds, nonprofits, citizens, and technologists to discuss open government ideas and strategies.

Sponsored by Knowledge as Power and hosted by OpenSourcery.
