The First Friday Club of Chicago

Welcomes

Coach Porter Moser

Loyola University of Chicago

Head Coach, Men’s Basketball Team

“Coaching Athletes – Forming Men”

Chicago is a sports town. And sports can be considered a national pastime.

In college sports, what cannot always be seen is the significance of the head coach off the court, field or diamond.

The measure of a coach’s success is often seen by the number of wins and losses, conference titles and championships. Outside of family, an athletic coach has been described as the most significant presence in the lives of student athletes. The coach can hone the skills of very talented athletes. But maybe even more important, the coach shapes character and models the transition from adolescence to emerging adults. A successful coach is responsible not only for developing a successful team, but also for developing mature, talented and successful human beings.

Porter Moser has done both. His success as Loyola’s Head Basketball Coach has brought his team and the University back into the National spotlight. With greater impact however has been Moser’s critical role as a Former of Men.

Moser attended and played varsity basketball at Benet Academy, and Creighton University. He held the head coaching position at Illinois State and Arkansas-Little Rock.

Moser has been at the helm for the most significant moments in Loyola University Chicago men’s basketball history in the last 56 years. During his first eight seasons at Loyola, he has changed the program’s culture and re-established recruiting in the Chicago area.

Moser’s accomplishments at Loyola are impressive including: three postseason berths, a NCAA Final Four appearance, 10 all-conference selections, and two MVC Player of the Year selections to name a few.
