Art Share!

About this Event

The Liturgists were founded on the idea of addressing the many dimensions of our lives through the lenses of art, science, and faith. So, in keeping with these core tenets as focal points of our group, for our upcoming gathering: IT'S ART TIME!

It seems highly likely that many/all of us have some level of interest, passion, or skill in a form OR work of art. So let's share with each other! Please don't be intimidated, or tempted to think that you don't have something worth sharing! You do! IF you want to share, you're encouraged to!

Some ideas here, to get the artistic ball rolling...

Do you live for baking a certain style of cheesecake, crafting an exquisite poutine, or mixing a mean cocktail? Yes, that's art! Are you a convincing Rembrandt copy-cat, a secret slam-poetry master, or an interpretive dance extraordinaire? THAT is art. Are you an expert/superfan of The Powerpuff Girls, The Matrix Trilogy, or some obscure short film that no one's ever heard of? Indeed...this is ALL art! The list is endless! So whether you MADE/MAKE it, or you just LOVE/APPRECIATE it...please bring something you're passionate about, and share it with us!

Think of this as a grown-up, art-centric show-and-tell, with a format that will be 'loosely structured'. The goal is for anyone who would like to share to have the necessary freedom, space, and time to adequately do this. In order to facilitate this well, we're asking all participants who will be sharing to fill out this (very short!) sign-up sheet form, so that we can plan and accommodate correctly.

Please fill out and submit the form by November 4th! Feel free to contact us with any questions! We look forward to seeing you on the 8th!

**** We're limiting our gathering to 10 people. In an acknowledgment of Covid-19 safety protocol, we'll be wearing masks at all times while inside the venue. We'll all be seated socially distanced and maintaining air flow via open windows, furnace fan, and air filters.****

Alternative Liturgy / Nov. 8th 2020 / Rhythm

The 'element' required for this "Rhythm" liturgy, is some sort of percussive instrument. Many household items work great! Feel free to get creative!

Ideas: bucket/pot/pan/bowl/bottle/can/glass...paired with a (ideally wooden/plastic) utensil of some kind.

The Liturgist (Portagist) Community:

por·tage - /ˈpôrdij/

noun

1. the carrying of a boat or its cargo between two navigable waters.

"the return journey was made much simpler by portage"

2. a place where carrying a boat is necessary.

We are a group of people who share a common interest in a podcast, The Liturgists, that addresses life through the lenses of faith, art, and science. This common interest connects us, but our sense of disconnect and faith deconstruction is what bonds us.

Our goal is to find and foster a community with people who may have lost theirs, and fuel open and thoughtful conversation with those in the margins, the middle, the intersections, and the inbetween. We will talk about faith and doubt, spirituality and social identity, Michael Gungor’s moments of wonderfully awkward laughter, and Science Mike’s propensity for pizza...and much more!

All are welcome; fellow Liturgists enthusiasts are encouraged! We look forward to exploring, growing, and connecting with you all.

Intentions and Guiding Principles:

1. Our time together is for open, respectful, and thought-provoking conversation, but not for debating, preaching, or conversion.

2. Each gathering is a collective effort to learn from each other, while honoring everyone’s unique experiences. In this ‘brave space’, we intend to grow personally and as a community by holding our values and beliefs loosely, as we consider perspectives and ideas that may be new to us.

3. We seek to grow a consistent community, where all involved know that they’re safe, valued, and welcome.

Logistics:

- Meetings will occur roughly once a month, with a second social gathering scheduled monthly as well.

- Each meeting will have a discussion topic based on a specific podcast episode. Please listen to the relevant episode(s) beforehand.

- Our desire is for the discussion to be free-flowing, with some specific questions and talking points, to help guide and facilitate healthy conversation.
