#THUDfest15 Startup Pitch Battle powered by SAB Kickstart: PE Edition

We are on the prowl hunting for new talent all over South Africa during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2015 (#GEW2015). The Port Elizabeth edition of #THUDfest15 brings an opportunity to young people between the ages of 18 & 35 to compete in a pitch style battle between 10 pre-selected entrepreneurs. The participants will be nominated from the local business hubs and community with the purpose of launching their ideas to life. Our key focus is on finding black women and youth with great ideas to contribute to South Africa within the manufacturing & ICT sectors.

10 qualifying entrepreneurs will have a face-off pitch battle that are 60 seconds each answering the 3 questions below:

  1. Who are you: This is the entrepreneurs’ opportunity to share their story, background education, skill set etc.
  2. What problem are you solving: Define problem statement:
  3. Why & how are you solving it profitably: Product or service; USP; Monetization

(180 seconds judged by audience)

  • Top 5: Each get to pitch for 1 more minute to a panel of judges to evaluate on the following:
  • What’s your ask: Entrepreneur needs to clearly state what they need the investment for?. They will be rated at a scale of 1-5.
  • Winning pitch gets a R20 000 seed grant investment towards businesses needs. (non-tranferable)

Criteria

All youth with key focus on previously disadvantaged groups

  • 18 to 35 years olds young people
  • Manufacturing and ICT industries
  • Inventors, creators, innovators and garage tinkers
  • Zero to maker: wants to learn the requisite skills and access to the necessary means of production.
  • Maker to maker: wants to collaborate and access the expertise of others. At this stage, makers also contribute to existing platforms.
  • Maker to market: looking to commercialise and pursue market opportunities
  • Willing to start a business entity during the incubation period
  • Innovative, energetic and entrepreneurial in approach
