Population Health Academy - Fall 2017
Mon, Oct 23, 2017, 8:30 AM – Fri, Oct 27, 2017, 3:00 PM EDT
The Population Health Academy is a 5-day course that provides a high-level overview of concepts in population health. This course is designed for health system leaders and key administrators seeking a comprehensive introduction to the subject. The course is based our Graduate Certificate in Population Health.
Through case studies and real-life workplace applications, participants in the Population Health Academy will review and analyze key areas of Population Health:
US Healthcare Organization & Administration - the evolution of the US healthcare system over the past century from the formation of the blues plans to the push for universal coverage. The roles and perspectives of key stakeholders are explored as well as a look at the current challenges facing the healthcare system including what role the ACA has in attempting to address some of those issues.
Overview of Population - defines what population health is and how it differs from public health and clinical care. We explore the challenges facing us and the importance of involving multiple stakeholders to improve the health of the population.
Healthcare Quality & Safety - examines the importance of defining and measuring quality. A case study will use the Donabedian model to improve the health of a specific population.
Health Economics explores risk-sharing enterprises, like ACOs, and how the trade-off of risk and return are used in the management of such organizations.
Data Analytics delves into the world of datasets, data warehousing, coding and population health management software. Following Thomas Davenport’s Analytics Framework and Edward Tufte’s rules for data visualization, you’ll create graphs to answer a specific question and identify the data required to create such visualizations.
Prevention & Chronic Disease Management breaks down the component parts of population health such as behavior change, behavioral economics, shared decision making, health determinants and the levels of prevention. An analysis of creating effective wellness plans and managed care will be discussed
