Event description
Learn how to make the most of the rain to improve your landscape for pollinators and water quality!

About this Event

Rain gardens are shallow depressions that help capture stormwater runoff from rooftops, driveways, and other hard surfaces; and allow the water to be filtered and cleaned through plants and soils. When plants are selected properly, these gardens can help pollinators too!

Native plant and sustainable landscape experts from the San Antonio River Authority will describe the best plants and practices to make your rain garden pollinator-friendly.

The workshop includes a guided tour of the grounds to see different types of rain garden styles and a wide variety of native plants for pollinators. There is also a make-and-take activity to build your own bunyip (a simple tool that measures landscape elevations), to aid in planning and building your rain garden.

Join San Antonio River Authority staff Lee Marlowe, Sustainable Landscape Ecologist, and Jake Aalfs, Landscape Architect, to learn the basics about rain gardens so you can plan, design, construct and maintain your own Pollinator Rain Garden.

Space is limited to 30 participants.

This event is affiliated with the 2019 Monarch Butterfly and Pollinator Festival. For more information:
