Event description

Description

Hi everyone,

We will be hosting our first philanthropic event for Pollinate on February 26th at the Vancouver Food Bank. We will be assisting the organization in food sorting at their facility on Raymur Street. One of our major focuses as an organization is to give back to our community and it will be a terrific opportunity to network and give back at the same time!

We currently have enough space for 25 volunteers and they will fill up fast, so please sign up ASAP.

Group food sorts help ensure that the food that comes into the Food Bank is sorted appropriately and shared with our members. Food sorts provide groups the added opportunity for team building, along with an orientation of what we do here at the Food Bank. Groups range from large corporate organizations to sports teams, community partners, schools, families and individuals. Volunteers help with sorting, packing, stacking, cleaning and recycling.

Before your visit:

1. Where are you located? We are locatedat 1150 Raymur Avenue, Vancouver.

2. Is there parking for volunteers? Free street parking is available but is limited as there are other businesses around. Carpooling is recommended.

3. What should we bring? We will provide any supplies that are needed including gloves and safety vests. If you use reading glasses please bring them along.

4. What should we wear? Please wear clothing you don’t mind getting dirty and wear closed-toe shoes that are comfortable.

5. Can I lock up my valuables? We have locked storage available for purses, jackets and backpacks.

6. Are snacks and drinks provided? Yes, we provide light snacks and hot/cold beverages for our volunteers. You are welcome to bring your own food as we have a fridge and microwave in our volunteer lounge. Please note we do not allow alcohol on site.

7. What tasks will we be doing while in the warehouse? The tasks depend on the most urgent need at the time, but may include: - Sorting and boxing food - Checking for open packages and dents - Checking “Best Before” and “Expiry Dates” - Sorting and packing produce - Sorting baby items and packing emergency bags - Any additional tasks that need to be completed.

If you have any additional questions regarding volunteering please contact Anthony Sage at anthony.sage@telus.com.
