Mark your calendars for Sept. 24, 25 & 26 and start making plans for the return of PolaCon! This time, we're back in-person!

About this event

Mark your calendars for Sept. 24, 25 & 26 and start making plans for the return of PolaCon! And for our 6th PolaCon in North Texas we will be back in person (with some talks streamed). And it's worth noting that nearly all our events, PolaWalks and meet-ups will be outdoor, including, of course, our 10th annual State Fair walk!

For the uninitiated, read this excellent, comprehensive recap of 2018's PolaCon: https://bit.ly/2VzrJhD And here’s a fantastic, thorough recap of the first PolaCon: http://www.thedentonite.com/blog/polacon-one-denton-texas

Things will officially* kick off for our 10th Annual Rain-or-Shine #PolaWalk at The State Fair of Texas on Friday, September 24.

Then, we'll return to the splendor of Downtown Denton on Sept. 25 and 26 for more than 20 instant photography-related events: PolaWalks, talks, demos, workshops and roundtables covering everything from an "Instant 101" for beginners and hands-on cyanotypes "for kids of all ages" demo to more advanced sessions like the ins-and-outs of a OneStep2 to the "Big Shot Shuffle" and from the new Polaroid Go (the smallest analog instant camera) up to to 4x5s and 8x10s and from cyanotypes and tintypes to emulsion transfers/lifts. Like past years, all events on Saturday and Sunday will be near the Downtown Square and "walkable" (within 0.9 miles).

What's new this year? A special session and Q-and-A with Zane Pollard on his software work on the opensx70 project.

And, we were fortunate to have Retrospekt join us for a fantastic session during PolaCon Bay Area 2021 to discuss their business and their work with Polaroid. For PolaCon 6, we’re thrilled to have Brian Rieth, Retrospekt’s Head Of Repairs, join us via the miracle of the internet to discuss how Retrospekt refurbishes and repairs old cameras (and other cool vintage tech from Walkmans to Game Boys). Also new, an after-hours karaoke event featuring a comprehensive menu of camera/photography-themed songs. Also, for the first time, we'll host a second smaller Zines & Things Swap Meet on Day III of PolaCon.

Because IFS is a volunteer-run registered non-profit, and PolaCon is FREE to attend, PolaCon is not some fancy-pants book-a-room-for-you convention. No, this is more of a “choose your own adventure”-style kind of gathering where IFS members work with venues to host photographers for day-time events, and then attendees plan their travel and find lodging nearby. So, whether you want to crash on a couch at a friend’s place, on a king-size at one of the many hotels or nab a unique AirBnB close to Downtown Denton, make your arrangements soon.

PRIMARY VENUE LOCATIONS TO PLAN TRAVEL:

Friday: State Fair of Texas at Fair Park in Dallas

Saturday: Denton Camera Exchange, Harvest House, Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios

Sunday: Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios and Denton Camera Exchange.

We ask that all PolaPals and attendees respect any and all current mask guidelines posted by our host venues when entering their indoor spaces. (IFS will provide masks for anyone who "forgets" theirs.)

Stay tuned for a final "fixed" schedule as plans develop.

*For folks who arrive early on Thursday, watch for some cool meet-ups and events.

As Dr. Edwin Land once said: "One of the best ways to keep a great secret is to shout it." We're still a non-profit with zero budget for marketing or advertising, so, we're relying on y'all to help spread the word about IFS and PolaCon to fellow film photo friends!
