Event description
Join Greenbelt Alliance on a nature hike in Point Reyes National Seashore.

About this event

Starting at the Laguna Trailhead, we'll follow the Coast Trail to a lunch stop at Santa Maria Beach. We then go inland on the Laguna Trail back to the trailhead. Along the way, we'll enjoy great views (weather permitting) of the Point Reyes coast. We'll also see the impacts and rebirth from two fires, the first in 1995, and last year's Woodward Fire, which Point Reyes National Seashore staff have said was beneficial to the area’s ecology. About a mile of the hike will be along the edge of the Woodward Fire footprint.

TOTAL DISTANCE

This is an easy to moderate five-mile loop with only about 400 feet in elevation change.

LEADERS

David Schmidt and Serena Enger.

WEATHER POLICY

We’ll go rain or shine. Bring rain gear if rain is predicted. In October, rain, if any, is expected to be light and brief.

COST

Free; Reservations Required.

WHERE TO MEET

Take Sir Frances Drake Blvd. to Highway 1 at Olema. Turn right, then immediately left onto Bear Valley Road, pass (do not stop) Bear Valley Visitor Center, continue about a mile to the intersection with Limantour Road. Turn left onto Limantour Road. Continue on Limantour Road about five miles, then turn left at the sign for Pt. Reyes AYH Hostel/Clem Miller Enviro. Ed. Center. Continue past hostel building about ¼ mile, park at Laguna Trailhead.
