Point Reyes Books and PRNSA present Obi Kaufmann

Point Reyes Books and the Point Reyes National Seashore Association present an intimate gathering and walk with Obi Kaufmann, to celebrate the release of The Coasts of California (Heyday Books).

Limited to 30 attendees, each ticket to this special event includes a copy of The Coasts of California and the opportunity to walk the Coast and Laguna trail loop (~4.6 miles) with the renowned artist and naturalist behind the California Field Atlas series. Proceeds from this event benefit the Point Reyes National Seashore Association and their year-round conservation, education, and community building work.

THE WALK

The Coast Trail meanders through creek-side habitat before going by wetlands as you approach the ocean. We will loop back on the Laguna Trail. It is a moderate, pleasant 4.6 mile walk through beautiful coastal woodland and shrub.

A book signing will follow the walk.

DIRECTIONS

The Coast Trailhead is approximately 15 minutes by car from the Bear Valley Visitor Center. It is located along Laguna Road 0.2 miles from its junction with Limantour Road. Space for parking is limited. A 300-foot-long stretch of unpaved shoulder on the south side of Laguna Road (e.g. across the road from the hostel) is generally wide enough for about 15 vehicles to park. Please pull completely off the road and make sure your vehicle is entirely out of the lane of travel. (See map for details.)

We will meet at the Clem Miller Environmental Education Center at 11am. Once you park near the Laguna Trailhead, continue walking along the road, past the yellow gate to the Ed Center at the end of the road.

ABOUT OBI KAUFMANN

Growing up in the East Bay as the son of an astrophysicist and a psychologist, Obi Kaufmann spent most of high school practicing calculus and breaking away on weekends to scramble around Mount Diablo and map its creeks, oak forests, and sage mazes. Into adulthood, he would regularly journey into the mountains, spending more summer nights without a roof than with one. He is the author of The California Field Atlas (2017, #1 San Francisco Chronicle Best Seller), The State of Water: Understanding California’s Most Precious Natural Resource (2019), The Forests of California: A California Field Atlas (2020), and The Coasts of California, (2022) all published by Heyday.
