Event description

Description

This 4 week poi workshop is best-suited for people completely new to poi. We will explore different planes, timing and direction concepts and develop movement at a comfortable pace for beginners. We will explore movement such as reels and tic-tacs, extensions, turns, chasing the sun, butterfly variations, corkscrews, windmills, 2-beat and 3-beat weaves, waist wraps and fountains over 4 weeks. Additionally we will begin looking at basic transitional moves such as pendulums and stalls and how they can be applied to link moves throughout the 4 weeks.

Week 1 will include work on plane control while exploring the different planes. We will go over directions and timing as well. The moves we will work on will be reels and tic-tacs, extensions, turns, and finally build into chasing the sun.

Week 2 will focus on movement in opposites and work on butterflies, butterfly extensions, behind the head butterflies, split time extensions, split time butterflies and opposite hip reels.

Week 3 will explore corkscrews and windmills, finally moving into 2-beat and 3-beat weaves.

Week 4 will continue by working with 3-beat weaves to develop waist wraps and fountains.

Poi will be provided for use during the workshop. Limited space available.
