The Inspired Word presents two amazing and amazingly diverse poets, Ocean Vuong and Osunyoyin Alake, plus special guest poet Liz Worth (visiting from Toronto) as well as our awesome 20-slot open mic open to all types of artists (comedians, musicians, storytellers, fiction/nonfiction writers, as well as poets and spoken word artists).

Born in Saigon, Vietnam, Ocean Vuong is the author of the chapbook BURNINGS (Sibling Rivalry Press, 2010) and is currently an undergraduate at Brooklyn College, CUNY. He was a semi-finalist for the 2011 Crab Orchard Series in Poetry First Book Award and has received an Academy of American Poets award, the Connecticut Poetry Society’s Al Savard Award, as well as four Pushcart Prize nominations. Poems appear in RHINO, diode, Lantern Review, Softblow, Crate, and PANK, among others. He keeps a blog at http://www.oceanvuong.blogspot.com/.
Osunyoyin Alake is an African American anthro-photo-journalist, fine arts photographer, initiated priestess of the Yoruba river goddess Osun in Osogbo Nigeria, sidereal astrologer, and poet. The Educators Guide to MoCada (Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Art in Brooklyn New York) is a representation of the range of her artistic work. It includes the front cover photograph, twelve photographs inside, a poem called "Eternally Among Us" and a feature article "Home Here: African Art in the Diaspora” She lives in New York City.
Liz Worth is a Toronto-based author. Her new book, Amphetamine Heart, is a surreal collection of poetry inspired by punk rock, strange dreams, heavy metal, and late, late nights. She is also the author of Treat Me Like Dirt: An Oral History of Punk in Toronto and Beyond.
