Description

At lunch with a bunch of guys the conversation turned to who owned a gun. When asked if I did, I said, “I don’t need to. I carry a book of poems, and if any thugs come at me, I just hold out that book and they run like hell.”

For most of us, school did us in. The dreaded Poetry Unit, where we were grilled about what a poem “meant.” Sometimes it felt like being asked what a fried egg meant.

W. H. Auden, for some reason, was on the Today Show. He was asked to read a poem after which the interviewer asked him what the meaning was. Auden replied, “Are you asking me to read it again?”

Let’s spend some delightful time together discovering other ways of being with a poem. We will read from down in our hearts where the poem can bring out our empathy, connection, realization, sympathy, understanding, intimacy, recognition that we aren’t alone, comfort, laughter, and more.

Let’s be with what’s really important within a poem, what’s really important to and for you.

My hope is that I leave you with just that!

Saturday, March 30, 10am to 1pm

DUCC Friendship Hall, 56 Wall St., Douglas, MI

Workshop is free. But we really need you to register to save your seat(s) so we don't overfill the place and can manage our waiting list.

Oh! And bring snacks to share if you can! We will offer tea and coffee and water. If you dont like those things, bring your favorite beverage.
