The Poetry Slam is a one day celebration of poetry written by 5th-8th grade students. During this event, students across New York come together to perform their own original poetry to an audience of their peers. Finalists are chosen from each school and take the stage in the afternoon, along with master guest poet Carlos Andrés Gómez.
It is recommended that students participate in the Writing Poetry unit from the Common Core aligned Writing Matters program (approximately 4 weeks of instruction) prior to attending this event. However, all student poets are welcome.
