Poetry (BIER) Slam!
Tue, April 11, 2017, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM CDT
You guys: it’s National Poetry Month! And you don’t have to be the Poet Laureate of Milwaukee’s East Side (or even dabble in the art, for that matter) to revel in the delight that a good literary bier pairing can bring to all the senses. In this klasse we’ll be tasting a wide range of brews, each set to the tune of a poem that perfectly exemplifies its mood, spirit, and thematic resonance. Not into any of those words? Cool! You don’t have to be! The central question at the core of this particular little study is “How does this bier make you feel?” (Beyond “mouthfeel,” of course.) So forget about that one kid in class who keeps bringing up Ulysses every thirty seconds just to prove he read the darn thing, (Uggghhh, we GET IT, CARL!), put on your best drinking cap, and join us for an evening of literature and libations! (Aka: bier, poems, bier poems, and more bier!)
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! We’ll be giving away some brews, books, and goodies to the top 5 winners of our FIRST EVER Bierklasse Poetry Contest! The rules are as follows:
-All poems must be submitted by 12pm on April 10th, 2017.
-Your poem MUST include the word “Bier,” in some fashion OR it may make mention of a particular bier
-MS Word or PDF files only please, no more than 2 pages
-Only one entry will be accepted per guest. Please submit your entries/questions to firstname.lastname@example.org
-Poems will be judged by event attendees (that’s you!) and prizes awarded on the day of the event
-You do not need to submit a poem to participate in the klasse
In need of some inspiration? Allow Edgar to lend a hand...
Fill with mingled cream and amber,
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chamber of my brain —
Quaintest thoughts — queerest fancies
Come to life and fade away;
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today.
-Lines on Ale, Edgar Allan Poe
About Lowlands Bierklasse
A Lowlands Bierklasse is no run-of-the-mill beer tasting. A typical class lasts about 1 ½ to 2 hours and is filled with interesting knowledge, tasty frites, and delicious bier. Students taste multiple biers that encompass each class topic while learning about the history, experiences, and uniqueness behind them. In a relaxed and fun environment, there is time for discussion, questions, and maybe even some extra bier! Bierklasse is perfect for groups, gifts, and even dates because you’ll soon learn that there is a perfect bier out there for everyone! Visit bierklasse.com for more information.
