Description

POETRY APOTHECARY: Perfume-making and creative writing in Falkland Chapel

Poetry Apothecary returns with a very special session inside the Memorial Chapel on Falkland Estate (Centre for Stewardship) - immersed in nature and landscape, with the fresh air around us.

The Chapel is open-roofed - we will have a sheltered space available if the weather is unfavourable, so the session will go ahead regardless!

There are two dates to choose from for this session, with costs and times the same for both:
Saturday 5th August + Saturday 2nd September.

You are booking for SATURDAY 5th AUGUST, 12.00pm-4.00pm

£40 - cost includes all materials.

Ages 16+
Spaces are limited, booking essential.

In this unique workshop, you will create your own essential oil scent blend to take home, as well as a poem or short piece of writing. The workshop explores how the ingredients and techniques for composing and blending a scent can be compared to writing a poem, and vice versa. You will learn about essential oils and their uses in natural perfumery; techniques in designing and blending a scent; developing skills and ideas for your own 'holistic creative practice'. You'll receive guidance in crafting a poem, from first ideas to final draft - no experience necessary. The 'poetry' aspect can mean many things - it may be a collection of words inspired by the location and the oils you choose to use; or a more fluid piece of writing, perhaps the start of a story. There's no pressure or expectation to end the day with a fully formed piece of work. Your scent-blend will also have several uses – it can be worn as a perfume, used as a space aroma in an oil burner, or in the bath.

Rebecca Sharp is a writer and artist whose practice encompasses text, performance, visual and collaborative projects. In recent years she has been working with perfumery and essential oils - in 2016 Rebecca was Poet-Perfumer in Residence with StAnza: Scotland’s International Poetry Festival, where she made new work combining poems and natural perfume blends. She established Poetry Apothecary as a way to explore scent, ecology and creativity, to make new work and offer participatory workshops.
