Poetic Forms: A Workshop of Movement and Poetry

By Caroline Brink

Overview

Join us as we explore the connection between the intuitive body and the poetic mind, working closely with somatic movement as our guide.

The Vision:

We are a society of thinkers. We spend so much time inside our own heads: processing our days, worrying about the future, and even thinking about the things we’re feeling. But emotions should be felt in our bodies. In order to properly understand and move through our emotions, we must process the sensations they evoke, experience the feeling not just in our mind but in our bodies.

As artists and writers, we often get blocked by our own minds. We end up censoring ourselves and overthinking the concepts we are working through. In this workshop, we will address both of these problems by combining practices of movement and art, and silencing the editorial voice.

This workshop will help participants achieve two things. First, we will teach participants how to use art as a tool to better process and experience their emotions. Second, participants will learn how to use their body to inform their writing practice and guide them beyond artistic blocks by transcending their thinking mind.
