Description

This two-day mini-institute focuses on building inclusive, nurturing classroom environments with high expectations. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to surface their strengths and weaknesses in various areas of classroom management and vote on topics they wish to take a deeper dive into. This will allow the workshop to be differentiated for participants in the room.

Topics may include:

· Executive Functioning

· Understanding the Impact of Trauma on Learning and Behavior

· Social Thinking

· Adapting the Classroom Environment to Meet the Needs of All Students (movement breaks, mindfulness, seating arrangements, grouping)

· Data Collection (frequency, latency, duration and interval recording)

· De-escalation

· In-the-Moment Strategies for Handling challenging behavior

Educators will leave after Day 1 of this series with new tools in their toolkit, a specific action plan, and self-selected homework to try in their own school. When they return for Day 2 in the series, we will take the time to share successes, brainstorm solutions to challenges, and continue to learn about the remaining topics. By the end of this institute participants will return to their schools with new confidence, skills, and research related to why students behave the way they do and how adults can support them to become more productive, better regulated members of the classroom community.
