Event description

Description

Few things cause more fear and anxiety for mental health professionals than the thought of facing a grievance from DORA. As the premier law firm in Colorado for mental health professionals that has actually tried cases in this field, Robert A. Lees & Associates has a long history of grievance defense; we understand this process better than anyone. Bolster your professional education by joining us for this informative class as we break down and
explain the grievance process. We'll cover topics like:

  • how to work with your professional liability insurance provider when you're grieved

  • who to contact and when

  • why you should never respond to a DORA complaint without consulting an attorney

  • and what you should do NOW before you’re grieved

We will also spend some time showing you how to maintain a model client record, listing what information you need to keep, and what you should and should not share when your client requests a copy of their record. Your client records are vital to your practice as a mental health professional, but they also form a crucial part of your defense in the event you receive a grievance.

Finally, we will address a specific area where DORA has increased scrutiny and has become aggressive in sanctioning therapists where they deem a violation has occurred: dual role relationships.. We will be examining Colorado laws, rules, and regulations, as well as thoroughly discuss the Codes of Ethics of the major national associations so that you can best protect yourself and avoid any pitfalls in this regard.

After class, enjoy lunch with our team while participating in an open Q&A session. Lunch is included at no additional cost—we'll get your order as a part of your registration.

Attendance at this class counts for two and a half (2.5) hours of continuing education credit (CEUs/PDHs).
