Event description

Description

The Pantaloons perform Play On!

The Pantaloons are a young, vibrant theatre company who bring what we consider to be a vital sense of “play” back to classical performance. In their theatre, your imagination is just as important as theirs. Their aim is always to produce a performance which is experimental, eye-catching, moving and fun.

Join us for an amusing and enlightening afternoon of Shakespearean spontaneity as a crack team of professional actors play their way through some of the Bard’s funniest scenes; with YOU as the director!

Watch as a talented cast hilariously implement audience suggestions on-the-fly (and maybe make a few discoveries along the way).

It’s Shakespeare – as you like it!

Where will we be?

If the weather is good we shall be in the park, behind the village hall. If the weather is not good, we shall be in the village hall.

Who is Richard Stonley and why Shakespeare?

Richard lived in Doddinghurst in Tudor times and throughout 4 different monarchs. During those times he wrote diairies, some of which survive today and are to be found in the Fulger Museum in Washington D.C. His diairies are full of details of Tudor everyday life including social lives, food, drink and local mysteries. It would have been his 500th birthday in 2020, when we shall hold an even larger festival but we decided upon a smaller one this year to give everyone the chance to learn about Richard Stonnley and his family.

Stonley is also well known as the first ever purchaser of a works of William Shakespeare.
