About this Event

Please join Impact Travel Alliance NYC and ExplorEquity for an exciting evening immersed in global food sustainability with a focus on Puerto Rico. ExplorEquity Co-Founder Catarina Rivera will be in conversation with Chef Gabriela Ramos discussing all things food, Puerto Rico, our ancestors, entrepreneurship, and more. There will be time for questions and comments from the audience as well. Tickets include plant-based and authentically Puerto Rican appetizers prepared by Chef Gabriela Ramos.

Bio: With 12 years of experience in the public sector, Catarina Rivera has worked as an educator as well as a nonprofit program manager. In 2018, she was named to the "40 Under 40 in NYC Food Policy" list by the New York City Food Policy Center. She has organized the Washington Heights/Inwood Food Council, a grassroots food justice organization, since 2016. Most recently, she is the Co-Founder of ExplorEquity, a social impact travel company. She is a social entrepreneur, certified holistic health coach, and community organizer. While her subject matter expertise is centered around her work in food equity and her training in public health and education, she also speaks about her life experiences as a person living with impaired vision and hearing, and her career journey as an ambitious Latina woman.

Bio: Gabriela Ramos studied nutrition and holistic cooking at the Natural Gourmet Institute and before cooking professionally in New York City she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Sociology at Cal State Long Beach, California. Her background of Afro-Caribbean, Indigenous and Spanish roots is influential in her approach to flavor and taste, hand picking ingredients that are personal and instinctual to her. Cooking is her spiritual practice, sharing and connecting people through the intersections of culture, tradition and familial rituals. Gabriela believes food is healing and shares this philosophy with her community through her private chef work, diet consultations, pop-up dinners and catering.
